On coach to Silverstone for British MotoGP.
Did the 400 mile trip down from Beauly near Inverness to home yesterday. Mixture of torrential rain and sunny periods, but at least we didn’t have the high winds we had on the way up. When the rain stopped we had some great riding. In particular, the B roads in southern Scotland, parallel to the A74(M) were superb. Almost completely empty roads run from the Old Carlisle Road (which we joined at Cumbernauld) onwards all the way through Beattock, via Lockerbie, and Annan to Gretna. Then the great A6 through the Lake District with the ‘corkscrew’ over Shap Fell. We had a very wet final stretch through the Dales down the A65 and through Bradford. The Duc’s chain hadn’t stretched and no oil was consumed over the whole 1100 mile trip, and the one issue solved with some WD40.
Top southern Scottish roads:
A702/B7076 Abington to Lockerbie
B723 Lockerbie to Annan
B721 Annan to Gretna
Smoo Cave, view to Cape Wrath from Smoo Cave Hotel, Durness and now in the mysterious Lovat Arms Hotel in Beauly. Down A9 tomorrow.
Off to Scotland
Life in Durness.
The Duc looking a bit depressed after being started by Daniel from the RAC. Stop at fantastic bay near Durness.
